Ethical statement

My concept has developed from ideas of Scottish heritage, tradition and social status.  In line with this I have focused on fabrics, which represent this notion. Tartans, checks and woven fibres made from lambs wool. All of which resourced from second hand shops and car boot sales. Ideas of re love, reuse and recycle to create a slow fashion garment. Alongside this notion are the conflicting and contradictive ideas of Sci fi, space age and comets.  It’s this eclectic mix of very different concepts, which allows my work to remain ethically aware whilst remaining original. The use of PVC or latex can be seen as a controversial choice when stating that you are ethically ware, but the idea of slow fashion is the key message I want my work to show. My choice of fabric is important when thinking about creating a garment, which is slow fashion. The material itself must be sustainable and long lasting, to be able to become a lifetime piece. PVC and Tartan have different historic backgrounds, different looks, and contrasting styles. This makes them an interesting combination.
